Control

These are things I have control over.

I have control of the now. I can make a beautiful Dinner for myself. The table cloth is linen and antique. The flowers have been pulled in from outside on the windowsill. The cats stay with me in each moment- understanding something is different. Last night I made roast chicken with potatoes and carrots and onions because it tastes like Sunday in America. I am in isolation. Venice is in quarantine. There are fines for leaving the house unnecessarily. Anyone who has symptoms but leaves their home could be charged with manslaughter. Local police have set up specific controls. Across Italy government measures prohibit travel without good reason, whether by car or motorbike, or even a walk. Article 650 of the Criminal Code says you risk arrest for up to three months or a fine of up to €206. If a false declaration is made about your reasons for leaving the house (there is a list of exemptions on why you can go out ) Article 495 is triggered, which normally provides for imprisonment from 1 to 6 years. So for the next month I am at home in Venice. Alone. The end date of the quarantine is set for April 5. I believe it will be longer. I believe this is not ending soon. My friends call and write and I know I am loved. This last week as I saw myself losing 100% bookings of my company I realized when this is over I will need to get a job - even if only temporarily. I also realized the world as I know it has changed. But we cannot live in fear of the future. Panic will not serve us. We need to live in the now. I am ok right now. Be still and sit in knowing. Those tangible things around me are ok. Now is the time to listen to your inner voice. Say what you want about the media or politics or something this is a conspiracy- whatever your political views - the reality is world has changed. As trillions of dollars, euro and yen are lost - personal life and the way in which we do business will be different going forward. We don’t know what the future brings but we know where we are today. Use this time turn inward. Find the good in the moment. Reflect and find beauty in the now.
