Lucid Dreams

I dream. Vivid dreams. Lucid dreams full of symbolism. Tossing and turning. My mind races so much I can’t sleep. I wake and pace. I go to the window and look out. The dream felt so real. The image imprinted on my brain as if it actually happened. I know it couldn’t have. An iceberg floating down the Grand Canal? Passing the Palazzo Salviati. Moving slowly. Serenely. So brilliantly white it’s almost blue. Its reflection catching the gold mosaics surrounding a queen made of tiny slices of glass. I pause. She’s made of Glass? I reach out to touch her and She’s untouchable. It feels like something Klimt would have designed. It occurs to me the facade must be newer than I realized. It’s Stile Liberty - the Italian variant of Art Nouveau - and I remind myself in my dream to look up the story later. The whole facade is an advertisement for the glass maker who made Murano famous again after Bohemia stole its place in the annuals of time. I notice her crown. The crown of life. Corona in Italian means crown. Under an electron microscope, the virus looks like it is surrounded by a solar crown with spikes that protrude from its membranes and resemble the tines of a crown. I google Dream Symbolism for an Iceberg. I realize at this moment in my life - every detail has meaning. Ceci n'est pas une pipe. Scientists and Spiritualists alike have devoted so much time trying to understanding what happens when we're sleeping. My mind is a conduit to knowing without knowing. It’s why I write the moment I wake. Hoping a thread of what I once knew informs me about myself. Psychologists say our dreams contain secret messages. An iceberg seems not so secret. I move on. I turn around and I am under an overpass. It’s dirty and grimy and I’m in Berlin. No Milan. Wait. I recognize it. Brussels. I’ve been here. I’m watching myself walking towards me. There is a giant gate between me and me. And when I reach the gate I swing my hand up, followed by my leg, and I start climbing over. The gate is iron and black and the top of the gate is spiked and I’m slowly navigating the spikes so as not to impale myself. I see a man and he has a key and opens the gate. Hey! How did you get that key? I yell. He asks Do you have permission to be here? Suddenly I’m at archeological excavation. I have a spoon and broom and I’m uncovering a fresco - one like you’d find at Pompeii - wait- it’s also a Mosaic- I continue digging in the dirt, slowly revealing an eye, an eyebrow, a laurel around a strong Roman face. I find the key. But it’s not a lock and key. It’s a legend on a map. My phone rings. It’s Peggy - the German not Guggenheim. She says you have to decide now. If you don’t go to America now you can’t go for 34 years she says. Why 34? Because it’s 7. But why can’t I go? Because they are closing the border and America won’t be open again for 34 years. You’ll never see your family again. I wake. My heart beating. I call my sister in Oklahoma. We talk 2 hours. About my mother whose not well. About my sisters kids. Her husband. My dream. She sees what I see. A grasshopper crawled out of her eye in my dream. I can’t remember if I’m awake or asleep. And somehow. Sleep or wake doesn’t matter any more. It’s all one.

OUR SPONSOR:

He’s not your typical antique dealer. 10 years ago Daniel Larsson - a Skateboarder turned the high end luxury antiques market on a tailspin when he became Sweden’s top antiques dealer. Now, Daniel alongside his rock singer/accountant wife are taking on a new brand and adventure in the home furnishings marketplace offering timeless classic designs, inspired by the finest 18th - 19th-century Swedish furniture. Think what would happen if RockerChic met Beethoven. With the increasing popularity and demand for fine authentic examples of historic Swedish furnishings, it is no longer possible to meet the demand with antiques alone. Original examples rarely come to market and when they do - they command premium prices. Larsson & Berg has build an archive of the finest historic original designs and they are educating contemporary craftsmen to recreate them. The goal of LARSSON & BERG is to safeguard Swedish designs and to develop, create and showcase high-quality classic Swedish furnishings, informed by their experience and knowledge of unique original examples. Join me in welcoming a new brand and adventure in the home furnishings marketplace by Daniel & Cristina Larsson. .
