I drive into to town to buy the ingredients for lunch. While there at the Coop in Greve I see a table cloth on sale and add it to the cart. Tablecloths are my weakness. It will be a bonne souvenir. I return to @ancoradelchianti - the house in the Chianti hills - and use the communal kitchen to steam asparagus. I pluck a lime from the tree. And make a quasi-Greek salad minus the feta. Tomatoes. Onions. Cucumbers. Fresh 🍋 lemon. A splash of oil. I drink a makeshift Bellini. Peach juice and Rose. I can already feel my heartbeat starting to slow. I need to figure out a way to come here more often.

My soul needs this in this moment of my life. I need to spend some time in the country. My head starts to free up parking spaces. Empty spaces. Moments where I feel like I can think. I came here to think. To make decisions. Previously my mind was like a parking garage which had let in too many cars, and I’m circling circling circling looking for a spot to park my car. Here in the country, I shut off the engine and I sit and admire the view. When I was a child I remember my mom sitting in the window drinking in the sunrise. Her coffee black. Her back turned to the kitchen. Her face in the dawning light. She was always the most beautiful in those moments. She had a serenity then that evaded her later in the day. Perhaps that’s why I came here. To Chianti. Seeking a serenity that was evading me in my day to day life. I chop strawberries and basil and sprinkle them with lemon for dessert. And I sit in the sun and don’t think at all. Just sit with my face drinking in the light.
