Easter Sunday
Easter Sunday grilling with friends. It was a turbulent weekend and friends soothed me. I told our host you should save the shells. Put them in your garden to remind you of this day. The scallop shell has long been a symbol. A symbol of the womb, of fertility. Of the rising sun. Christianity adapted it as a renewal of life - of resurrection. It’s a symbol of a journey. A pilgrimage. I can’t see the scallop shell without thinking of the Birth of Venus. Botticelli. The goddess standing in the scallop shell as pure and perfect as a pearl. She’s the goddess of love & beauty. Venus is in the house. April 6. My horoscope reads “Tuesdays cosmic landscape is looking to soften any tensions that have been building. Gentle Venus spends the day soothing sore spots in your ruling planet Mars. This pairing brings warmth, magnetism & softness to your self expression.”
Years ago in Hanoi I bought an ancient scroll in Chinese script - the scroll was a letter from a warrior to his people. He-they-had lost the battle but he was encouraging them to be strong. To carry on. He was praising them for their skills, for their perseverance. My colleague Angela turned & asked, “Have you ever considered you were a warrior in a past life?” I couldn’t imagine it. I don’t have a warriors heart. And yet 3 times in the last 5 years prophets told me they see me walking with an army of angles behind me. My ex always said my superpower was my velvet hammer. Firm. But fair. My colleague Gail jokes I am Charming. But Deadly. I have never considered myself a warrior. And today it occurred to me. Mars is my ruling planet. I am accepting I am a warrior. Yasmin Mogahed wrote “being both soft & strong is a combination very few have mastered.” Mars is about energy, passion, self starting. My Venus is in Sagittarius... a person with this combination values freedom, is high spirited, is candid. Venus is the planet of love. Venus finds harmony both in self & others. The thing about war. No one really ever wins. There is assured mutual destruction.
The only winning move is not to play. I seek to find this balance between defending self, being brutal if needed to protect your own and yet civil in peace.
