Let It Linger
I took myself on a date. A few days working in France @theantiquesdiva were done. I use to push myself Pre-COVID. Normally, I would have worked 3 long days at the deballages and then got in the car and drove 10 hours back to Italy. Home by 10pm. Long days work. Traveling for business. No lingering. My life use to look a lot more glamorous than it actually was. Paris. New York. Bangkok. But what did I really see? I was in Provence for work. And COVID has taught me to linger. Long mornings in bed. Hours sitting in the sun reading a book. I can hear Alessandro’s warning when I moved to Venice. Be careful you don’t let the Italian lifestyle change you. But in fact, letting the Italian lifestyle - slow living - change me is exactly what I needed.
So this. Taking myself on a date. A Michelin-starred lunch @boriesandspa A visit to an abbey. A drive through the budding lavender fields. I got home from my business trip a day late. Instead of 10pm - I arrived back home in Venice the next morning at 10am, just in time for my 12 noon massage. “You’re kind to yourself.” a friend remarked. “No one does self care better than you.” He said. “I wasn’t always.” I said. “But yes. This is what I’ve learned.” I was a darn good wife. I am a good girlfriend. But what does any of that matter if I’m not good to me? I’ve spent most of my life making other people feel welcome, loved, accepted. And in the end- I welcome myself. I love myself. I accept myself. #andshelivedhappilyeverafter
