Own Everything
It’s time to interrupt Cannes to bring you real life. I returned home bloody exhausted & then a pipe in my laundry room sprung a leak. The staircase filled with water. As Laura said, “Only Toma, would catch the drips with champagne buckets.” It made me cry. I was already tired, burning the candle at both ends, & handling a flood by myself was overwhelming. Doing life on one’s own is hard. No. I wasn’t alone. Later @laurajessicapritchard came & my houseguests @yvalas were rockstars. Literally. Listen to Iveta’s music. I couldn’t have managed without their calm. She & her boyfriend graciously grabbed towels & buckets.
Cannes was glamorous. Cannes was fun. Cannes was a f-ton of hard work. Hustling. Making new relationships. Starting a new career. Learning exactly what it means to be a producer. Being a producer means getting the financing in place. It means taking a chance. Being willing to fail. Someone asked me, “Did they cast you?” “Baby that part is already done. Now it’s putting all the pieces in place. It’s selling the show which doesn’t happen overnight. It might never sell. But it’s taking a chance, believing in myself.
Years ago I decided I didn’t just want to be the CEO of my company @theantiquesdiva but my life. It’s the same for my TV show. I don’t only want to only be the star of my show I want to co-produce it. In the words of @oprah “Own everything you do.” Being CEO of Harpo, empowered Oprah to have control over every aspect of her show. When I chose to get a divorce, I made the decision to own me. No one else makes decisions on my behalf. Hyperindependence can be a trauma response but also smart girls secure their future. You can’t control all the circumstances in your life but you can control how you feel. Part of what I’m realizing as I get older is that it’s ok to cry. To cry from exhaustion. To release stress. To cry from hard work.
I’m resilient. I’m persistent. I’m adaptable. Not everyone would use champagne buckets to catch flood water. This week in Cannes was amazing. I learned a lot. I have the next steps in place. My co-producer/director Radek Wegrzyn @magicalrealistfilm & I have more work to do, but step by step we will get there. #pinkcarpet
