Taking a Leap of Faith with Timothy Corrigan

Toma Clark Haines - host of The Republic of Toma podcast presented by ASPIRE DESIGN AND HOME magazine - sits down with Timothy Corrigan to discuss chateau life, taking a leap of faith and the road he took to achieve the life of his dreams. As a teenager, Timothy wanted to be an architect, but he had one stumbling block. In order to be an architect, you needed to excel in math and he failed Algebra. He switched gears and became one of the leading names in the world of advertising. By the age of 30, he was living in Paris running one of the top ad agencies in the world.

Hemingway said, “If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”  And for Timothy, Paris informed his eye. Living in Paris was his entry into the design world. As Timothy explains, “The French have this ‘culture gene’ in their DNA that makes them passionate about their history, art and architecture.”

When advertising clients started noticing his keen sense of interior design within his own home (and consequently asking for his opinion on their own homes), Timothy considered changing careers. This was an insane idea: he was the height of his career in advertising. And yet, he knew he wasn’t enjoying his life anymore. At his high position level, he was no longer actively involved in the creative process, understanding the consumer needs and figuring out how to communicate to clients -- 3 things that make him tick. So, without any real formal training, he decided to take a leap of faith and do something he really loved; something that felt more satisfying on a soul level. He became the man we now know as Timothy Corrigan.

Timothy Corrigan is an interior designer with offices in Los Angeles and Paris. His firm, Timothy Corrigan, Inc., specializes in comfortably-elegant interior design and incorporates antiques into most of the projects. His clients include European and Middle Eastern royalty, Hollywood celebrities and corporate leaders.

In this episode, we discuss how we work differently during these times of the pandemic, how our priorities shift in times of crisis and how important it is to be comfortable in your life and home. We discuss what comfort means to this self proclaimed chateau addict, and go through the process of renovating a chateau by bringing life back to interiors of the past. Last, but not least, Timothy and Toma have a full-on debate about which King was best. Louis XV or Louis XIV?

Most of all, Timothy and Toma share laughs as they discuss living a life less ordinary.
