An Artist Date

One of the tenets of #theartistway is to take yourself each week on an #artistdate. I first did the book nearly 20 years ago and this tradition of taking myself on an artist date weekly has continued. Each week I seek inspiration. Beauty feeds my soul as much as oxygen fills my lungs. I need it. I need to find space to sit in quiet contemplation to inspire my eyes. This week I popped into a church near my dentist. I don’t even know the name of it. I studied the colors of the tiles. The architectural details. The size of the crown. I noticed how the temperature dropped as I entered the chiesa.

My method of meditation is to sit in a moment - fully present noticing everything around me. The sound of silence. As feel of the seat beneath me as my bare legs below my skirt sit on the chair. Swollen feet. Hot tired feet. The smell of candles. Wax. An unexpected wooden beam. As I become more and more present the world outside seizes to exist. My mind clears. #Justbreathe. And I sit in silence observing this space. Drinking in its beauty. I am beauty. Beauty is within me. I create beauty. I am the source of creativity. Creativity originates in me. I am safe. Safety originates within me. I move from mindfulness to meditation to affirmation. I stand. I stretch and I return to the noise of the street. And go to buy groceries.

My #proseccopowerhour cohort @ashantiquesanddesign and I will be leading an #artistway book club starting in September- if you want to be a part of it, drop a comment below and make sure to order your book before September 1.

OUR SPONSOR:

Republic of Toma offers one-of-a-kind, hand-made semi-precious jewelry. Subjects and motifs chosen for designs come from an imagination and vision that could be defined as a Cabinet of Curiosities in which each piece is inspired by art history, architecture, decorative arts and antiques; and where glamour, elegance, timeless beauty and uniqueness are translated into sculptural, wearable art.

Toma began traveling the world, studying in London and eventually moving overseas and launching her first global business – The Antiques Diva® & Co – the world’s largest antiques touring company offering antique sourcing in 15 countries.  She lived 5 years in each Paris and  Amsterdam before moving to Berlin for 7 years and then to Venice in 2017.

Influenced by her travels and global design inspiration, what makes Republic of Toma different from other jewelry brands is the connection between Toma’s creations and the world of antiques and design.

A self-professed jewelry addict, Toma says:

“Rings are my favorite accessory. They are the thing I wear for myself. When I wear a ring I see it all day long, typing on my computer, driving my car or enjoying a cocktail."
