Because It’s Fun

Because it’s fun. That’s my answer to your question. Why did you bring the cats to Paris? I can give lots of other answers. I didn’t have a petsitter to stay the whole time I was away. The cats don’t like to stay alone. But the truth is- it’s fun. They like an adventure as much as I do.

When I got my cats, I read alot about #howtotrainacat and everything I read said that you must expose them to everything you want them to think is normal in the first 6 months of their life. For 6 months they went everywhere with me. #trainsplanesandautomobiles (And Vaporettos.) They walked on leashes. Rode in my handbag and on top of my suitcase. They learned to twirl spaghetti and meow in French. Just before the pandemic they got their global passport. Today Paris. Tomorrow the world. When I get their leash out they patiently wait on the kitchen table for me to put their harness on. When I pack a suitcase they go sit in their travel carriers. Where are we going? Can I come? Let’s go! We have a system. 2 carriers. 1 a backpack. The other like a suitcase. A traveling foldable litter box. 1 for the car. 1 for the room. A Tupperware box for the train. Both cats are leash trained. Fortuny doesn’t like traffic- living in Venice there are no cars & I forgot to expose them - thus cars scare him. Fia is partially deaf & the noise doesn’t bother her. She is brave. Braver than he. She’s curious. Fortuny likes luxury. He prefers to order room service #bringmeyourfinestcaviar. Where’s the spa? Fia always wants to come with. She’s my traveller. My city girl. He’s more to the manor born. Fortuny is a a Taurus. Fiorella a Gemini. Does the zodiac work for pets? Who knows?

Alongside the cats I bring the fish. Their buddy Frank Sinatra JR. I fear Frank Jr Jr went to that great ocean in the sky. But Sinatra lives on. He’s as adaptable as the cats. Once we get to our hotel room we transfer him from the travel jar into his bowl where he serenades me with after hours cabarets. He likes to dance to my music in the morning. You think I’m kidding but Google it. Gold fish have music preferences. Opera. Jazz. Bach over Beethoven. My mom told me once- even your fish are interesting.
