Being a Bad Influence

I’m a really bad influence. That’s what makes me so fun to travel with. I order the 2nd bottle of Prosecco. The last 72 hours have been a festival of fun. Joe, Josephine, and Bruce arrive first, and we eat pizza waiting for Derrick and Jacob to land. Then we go to the Aiwav carnevale party followed by a day in Murano. Bruce kept buying me gin tonics, and I have apparently zero ability to say no, so while everyone else seemed fine on Sunday I had a hangover. #badhost I take them to Sunday lunch in Murano. Lele’s. For lunch in sunshine. And then Fabio takes us to see his glass factory to see behind the scenes how murano glass is made. Coming home at night we walk across the whole of Venice stopping in the grocery store by Rialto to buy nibbles. We sit around my table late at night… Uhmmm… ok to me that means 10 pm on a Sunday night with salami and cheese… and we talk some more.

There is a familiarity that can only be born out of common roots. Though we all live around the world we are all from Oklahoma. It’s fun to have Oklahoma in Venice. My apartment is like a university dorm. Yesterday I saw a pair of man’s white socks in my kitchen on a mid century chair. This is family. I feel happy and loved, and Josephine tells me it’s clear how happy I am living in Venice. I feel at home. I say. This city has embraced me and welcomed me. It’s where I am supposed to be at this moment in my life. I’m glad the boys planned a long trip. I don’t want them to leave, and I’m happy when I realize they’ve got 6 more days. Josephine and Bruce will go to Florence for a few days, we will take a day trip to Verona. Derrick is one of the best cooks I know. And Joe wants to celebrate Chinese New Years so we are planning an extravaganza on Saturday, and Derrick and Jacob need to find something sparkly to wear - we’ve got another party next Sunday with Vivienne the night before they leave. I think I might need to buy a 2nd mask. One can’t wear the same mask twice? Right? I might not hate carnevale after all. Xoxo.
