Last night I talked to a friend in New York and she was angry and my inclination is to soothe. I wanted to pull her head to my chest and rub her hair and say it’s going to be ok. Don’t be angry. It’s what my mother would have done. She would have told me to not feel such strong emotions - Be happy Toma.
Don’t worry.
But I realized as I was soothing my friend - she was right to be angry.
Anger is necessary sometimes to enact change. I stopped myself and said I understand your anger. I started praying. I sent her an energetic embrace of light and love, wrapping her in comfort and clarity. I sent her light and love so that she would turn her passion into purpose.
I started praying new leaders would emerge from this. I prayed for peace. I think of Ghandi, Thoreau, King, Mandela. I call upon their spirit.
Sometimes you have to get angry in order to enact change.
It is time for change.
It is time for a better tomorrow.
It is time for a better today.
In quarantine my cry was we are one. The cry now is the same. We are one. #weareone
