Happy Birthday Venice

One does not choose to live in Venice. Venice is a Lady. And a lady always chooses who she lets in. And I am lucky she chose me. She is wise this lady. Elegant. Full of Surprises. She dances with her residents. Spinning them in twist and turns like a Salsa. She is timeless. This city. She just turned 16 again. 1600 years she’s been in existence. Yesterday we celebrated her birth with a bottle of @dogal_venezia.

A few months ago I was doing a photo shoot in a bar for my Jewelry collection @republicoftoma.fashion with @nico.photo.gallery when a stranger walked up to me and began chatting.

He asked if I was the #jewelrydesigner for the photoshoot and I answered “Si”

“We love what you do,” he said, and he asked for my number.

A few days later - as promised - his publicist called.

We are launching @dogal_venezia a new Italian Luxury Sparkling Wine born in Venice. We would love to use your #madeinVenice jewelry in our photoshoot which will coincide with our launch on the 1600th anniversary of the foundation of the Venetian Republic.

I was elated. One of my biggest honors is that my #jewelrycollection is sold on the piazza San Marco at @boncompagni.valeria When Valerie extended this offer it felt like Venice herself had given me a wink of approval. “Brava. Hai fatto molto bene a prendere la decisione di vivere qui.”

In life I look for signs.
I ask for confirmations, laying my fleece out, asking God what shall I do. My decision to stay in Venice after this last year - this lockdown- the missing my family and friends - the strife- and my decision to stay here is continually confirmed. I am where I am supposed to be.

@dogal_venezia asking me be a small part of their launch was yet a another confirmation- another sign - Venice chose me. I love this city.

Happy Birthday Venice.

(Whispered in my best #marilynmonroe voice)

OUR SPONSOR:

Republic of Toma offers one-of-a-kind, hand-made semi-precious jewelry. Subjects and motifs chosen for designs come from an imagination and vision that could be defined as a Cabinet of Curiosities in which each piece is inspired by art history, architecture, decorative arts and antiques; and where glamour, elegance, timeless beauty and uniqueness are translated into sculptural, wearable art.

Toma began traveling the world, studying in London and eventually moving overseas and launching her first global business – The Antiques Diva® & Co – the world’s largest antiques touring company offering antique sourcing in 15 countries.  She lived 5 years in each Paris and  Amsterdam before moving to Berlin for 7 years and then to Venice in 2017.

Influenced by her travels and global design inspiration, what makes Republic of Toma different from other jewelry brands is the connection between Toma’s creations and the world of antiques and design.

A self-professed jewelry addict, Toma says:

“Rings are my favorite accessory. They are the thing I wear for myself. When I wear a ring I see it all day long, typing on my computer, driving my car or enjoying a cocktail."
