Living Chinese
In pursuit of balance. “Ping” in Chinese culture is when you create a situation in which different things exist in equal, correct or good measure. I have a “Ping” journal where I track how I’m doing in various parts of my life. Often when 2 or 3 areas of my life are going super well, other things suffer. Like if work is going great, my love life might be blah or when both work and romance are soaring, then I’m rubbish on my wellness routine and with creativity. If I am super creative, I may not rest. I sometimes think it’s utterly impossible to always be in balance. But I try. Being aware is part of the solution. I have 8 categories that I monitor monthly- like checking in with myself.
1 Wellness - am I exercising? Eating well? Not drinking too much?
2 Happiness - this is usually tied to my #findingmypurpose and spending time doing things that bring me joy
3 Romance - Remembering to make time and space in my life for love ❤️
4 Community - making sure I’m connected to friends and family
5 Creativity - Am I expressing myself? Writing? Painting? Taking time to dream?
6 Adventure - all work and no play can make Toma a dull girl. What’s getting my pulse going?
7 Rest - Am I giving myself time to recover? Not just sleep but mindless meditation.
8 Work - lol… this pays for all I do. Am I earning enough? Saving? Planning for the future?
My goal in planning a life in balance is to live like the Chinese plan a perfect meal. With Ping. Balance. In China ordering a meal is about finding the perfect harmonious #balance of flavors and textures. Our host, Ralf, ordered our meal in advance at the secret Chinese restaurant near Venice organizing an array of spicy, sweet, sour, and savory dishes, as well as a combination of meat, seafood, vegetables, and starches. The meal was as well-rounded as my derrière. Like ordering at a Chinese restaurant balance is achieved by being strategic. #beingintentional Life is a choice about where and how you spend your time. What do you do to achieve balance?
