RIP. My mom

I couldn’t write but my sister @marvelousmissyhancock could.

Born Alice Louise Sparks, she (our mom) lived up to her name as a spark of a girl who never met a tree she couldn't climb or a challenge she wasn't will to tackle. Once getting into a tug-of-war with a momma coyote as she tried to steal a pup from its den in the Kansas prairies.

Louise was an introvert, who could talk the ear off a sales clerk, a serious soul with surprising dry humor & wit, and a deeply kind human. She carried the wrongs of the world on her back and was a warrior for justice who felt the need to see those wrongs turned right—but she really loved a good belly laugh.

She was not perfect, but she was ours & she will be eternally loved & cherished for who she was.

We love you forever—mom, grandma, & friend!

A small gathering is tonight in Guthrie Oklahoma. It will take place at midnight my time in Europe. 5pm locally. I couldn’t make it home in time. I have deep sorrow. We found out yesterday morning. Later in the year when I can be with the family we will scatter the ashes in the fields near where she grew up and near the grave of my grandfather Tom (after whom I’m named).

OUR SPONSOR:

Republic of Toma offers one-of-a-kind, hand-made semi-precious jewelry. Subjects and motifs chosen for designs come from an imagination and vision that could be defined as a Cabinet of Curiosities in which each piece is inspired by art history, architecture, decorative arts and antiques; and where glamour, elegance, timeless beauty and uniqueness are translated into sculptural, wearable art.

Toma began traveling the world, studying in London and eventually moving overseas and launching her first global business – The Antiques Diva® & Co – the world’s largest antiques touring company offering antique sourcing in 15 countries.  She lived 5 years in each Paris and  Amsterdam before moving to Berlin for 7 years and then to Venice in 2017.

Influenced by her travels and global design inspiration, what makes Republic of Toma different from other jewelry brands is the connection between Toma’s creations and the world of antiques and design.

A self-professed jewelry addict, Toma says:

“Rings are my favorite accessory. They are the thing I wear for myself. When I wear a ring I see it all day long, typing on my computer, driving my car or enjoying a cocktail."
