Year of the Dragon

After leaving Rialto market, I was walking with @themanjacoby and without preamble I said “I’m so sad I don’t have a dragon!” Jacob burst out laughing. “What?” This comment out of context does sound odd. “For my centerpiece” I explained, “for the table tonight”

It’s the Year of the Dragon. I wore a dress embroidered with a dragon custom-made by @ambre.siemreap The skirt made of dragon scales. Joe  steamed fish with green onions & ginger & soy sauce while Derrick took on the role of sous chef. His knife skills are mad. I did what I always do. I made everything beautiful. (Plus my cream of cauliflower soup with leek & quail eggs recipe - it’s quite simply to die for). In the afternoon I set the table with linens & flower & candles & crystal. In the words of Elsie de Wolfe, “I am going to make everything around me beautiful & that will be my life.” I love New Year’s Eve & I always feel like Chinese New Year breathes 2nd breath into my waning resolutions. It’s a 2nd chance to kickstart my year.

Over the Christmas holidays I rested because I knew I was going to need it… January & February have been a burst of busy. This is a year of transformation, growth & balance. It’s a wood dragon year. And the year has started with extra kindling, that the fire was stoked & fanned so the 1st flames of the new year have come out like a dragons 🐉 🔥 breath. Arriving home, I remembered that dragon kite I bought in Bali years ago & tucked it into the table decor. *I found my dragon.* Life has been roaring & fast like a dragon. A busy period for work followed by a busy period with friends. And now like the dragon I’m retreating into my cave. A dragon may fly the sky breathing fire, but he also retreats into his cave to rest & recover. Preserve energy. For me this lunar year is about discovering balance between the cave & being in flight. Yesterday Rochelle said something to me, “you don’t walk or fly… you sort of glide” And I liked that description so much. Flying is easy for me. My soul wants to fly. I’ve had to learn to land. But gliding feels somewhere in the between. Like learning to master 2 worlds between the ground and sky.
