Che Privilege

“Che privilege!” a friend responds when I text a selfie from a yacht. “My Sunday wasn’t so bad. “ I respond nonchalantly as if I’m always out on 12 person, 15,30 meter yachts sailing in the Adriatic on a Sunday afternoon. The invitation came from @erininparis She texts and asks “Do you want to go out with me and Bea on @classic.boats.venice ?” The answer to that question is always yes. Si. Si. Si. I will move mountains to make my schedule accommodate a day out on one of #classicboatvenice boats.

But today was different. This was Jandona, an Italian vintage yacht. Built by one of Italy’s leading shipyards, Cantiere di Pisa, after a design by the renowned architect Pier Luigi Spadolini. This is the best of 1968. The end of an era when yachts of this size were still made of wood. The hull was built of three-layer diagonally laid mahogany, a masterpiece of boat building. And she was all mine for a day. Well mine and my friends. Captain Carl expertly maneuvers the boat as we chat about Venetian things, catching up on #lifeloveandothermysteries @PierAndrea keeps the glasses full and when we drop anchor I plunge over board with the enthusiasm of a 12 year old. We swim in the deep blue sea and lunch. When we pull in for lunch and Carl mores the boat everyone watches wondering who is about to disembark. I tell Elenora. “Please no autographs today” pulling my sunglasses firmly over my face. “Enough with the paparazzi” I say with a laugh and flash another selfie. Carl ordered me eel for lunch. I’m an adventurous eater, and he assured me it was a delicacy. It reminds me of pork. And though PierAndrea is repulsed, I munch happily on its crispy skin. I am happy. Lately life has been too much with me. And I’ve been stressed. But one day out on the water and the stress rolls off my shoulders like water on a seals back. Slipping back into the water for another swim I happily flip my tail. #mermaidforaday#dreamsdocometrue #yachtingadventures #luxurylife #mylifeinvenice #venicelife #venetianlagoon
